Solar batteries work by storing energy produced by your solar panels for later use. In some cases, solar batteries have their own inverter and offer integrated energy conversion. The higher your battery's capacity, the more solar energy it can store. While battery storage has come a long way from its modest beginnings, the numbers still don’t add up for many businesses and homeowners. Its time is coming soon, however. The energy storage market will balloon to $250 billion by 2040, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) predicts, and battery storage will automatically come with rooftop solar systems by the 2030s. When it does, solar may well become one of the dominant power sources in the global energy mix.

              When you need more electricity than your solar energy system is producing, your home can use the energy stored in your home battery. The battery will automatically discharge whenever your home is consuming more power than your solar panels are producing; this delays the need to pull energy from the grid. After your inverter converts the power into alternating current, that electricity will run through the rest of the house. It will then power your appliances and devices. Energy which is unused will then be sent to the home battery for storage. If you don’t have a home battery or your home battery is fully charged, the electricity will then be sent to the grid.
